World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. This value is the total of all the upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is because of how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can use since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.

Using the item level will allow players to compare the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it's able to deal. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a seller.

On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula that calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

It's not the only factor that affects the ilvl of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also change its stats. For example it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item upgrader kit. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher costs.

Another method to alter the stats on an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Affixes are used to give items extra damage or special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to differentiate them by adding a name.

Presently, all affixes are able to be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other rerolling methods.

Players can upgrade an item with specific stats or reroll affixes. The range of stats is determined by the item upgrader kit's level. However every item will include at least one stat within that range unless they are a unique item or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be altered by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players a chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game and is thus more beneficial in early game runs as opposed to later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chance of upgrading that increase with each item level. It is also possible to be increased with the use of anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item up to 140.

Moreover there are certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it is not successful.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade item successfully and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. All items have an overall success rate of 25%, and each item level upgrade with Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
