How to Replace an audi connect key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult because there are two connector pins, audi spare key (www.google.bs) and they serve different purposes however the best method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched in gazoline, Repair the 4th one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine with no sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is connected, but still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or in a local parts store. It is easy to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that needs to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, for example. In order to do this it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

Porsche-New-2023.pngA damaged G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or a misfire while in gear. If you experience any of these issues it is likely that your sensor is failing and requires replacement audi key fob. They're cheap and easy to find especially when they're an Bosch sensor like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this part is an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a variety of issues in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi q7 replacement key, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then processes this signal to control fuel, timig, and boost and then sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those two pins. This is a standard part across the Audi Keyless Go 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones could be available in wrecking yards.Lexus.jpg
