World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increase when it is upgraded. This value is the total of all the leveled up perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive dependent on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and is visible on all item tooltips. It is also used to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet.

The level of an item will allow players to compare the potency of gear when choosing to buy or sell. It's an indicator of the damage and quality. The level of the item can be used to compare items when evaluating a vendor's inventory.

The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are a few theories on how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated using a formula that calculates how valuable an item's stats really are. It takes into consideration that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzard's actual item level.

However, this is not the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, because the size of the area the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Item stats are a big component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications which are then enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times, at higher costs.

Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes could provide the item additional damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns), or make the item level upgrade unique by adding a special name to the item.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items that can be added to the upgrade item gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll attaches. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat within the same range, unless it's a unique Best item upgrade, or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. Similar to the base equipment, it must be done per item, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial in the early game, since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted by using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.

Additionally some items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available in the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%..

The success of an item upgrades is also influenced by the luck of that item. Each item has an initial success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
