The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum cleaner best utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. And you can create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've tested.
