The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot mop on which part of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've tested. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
