French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

French-door fridges combine form and function. They feature elegant double doors that open to reveal the large fridge on top and a freezer drawer below. Special features like through-the-door dispensers, high-end ice machines, and customizable flex drawers make them stand out from the rest.

We asked Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the right home. They considered storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency, among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The name implies that GE's Profile series is geared towards those who want to incorporate cutting-edge features into their kitchen. The refrigerator is brimming with these, from an inside-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a sophisticated water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This refrigerator is costly and I was expecting better.

Other than that however, this refrigerator is a great option. It has a huge freezer compartment which is uncommon for counter-depth French door fridges. It also holds a lot of frozen food items compared to other models.

Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is standard for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It has a decent-sized icemaker in the left door. But it's not the biggest one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in each compartment to create a custom storage setup for the items you need to store. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is good-looking, too. The LED lighting is a nice feature and the storage bins have the third shelf, which folds down so that you can store items that are tall. The drawers come with temperature controls so that you can set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their plastic textured coatings a bit hard on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator within this price range. It has Wi-Fi, app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices and lets you manage your refrigerator from anywhere across the globe. It also comes with numerous options for customizing. It also sends you notifications when the door is unlocked and when the freezer or fridge must be defrosted and when the filter needs to be changed.

It would be great if GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill, an option available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allows users to select the number of cups they would like to dispense. It does offer a countdown on the fridge's display to display how much water have remaining, but that's not as useful as Precise fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The Bosch french door refrigerator freezer-door Refrigerator is a striking piece. It's designed to look like it's a seamless component in your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment which keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer periods, and two compressors to preserve food items. The ice maker is one of the most efficient we've ever tested and produces a pyramid-shaped Ice with low water consumption. This fridge is ideal for a small household or a kitchenette that wants an attractive design and top of the highest quality food preservation.

This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators Test for a few reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained constant at just above 0°F and never changed more than a fraction - this is essential to avoid freezing burn. The fridge's refrigerator section also performed well, reaching the desired temperature for initial set within an hour and maintaining the temperature constant over the course of our tests.

Bosch is known for its high-end appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi and Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app lets you monitor and control your fridge from your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is costly, but offers great features and functions at a fair price.

While the fridge is an incredible piece of equipment, it's important to know the limitations. It has a small shelf space, which means you'll require some creativity when storing tall objects. Also the shelves aren't impervious to sprills and could be stained or damaged by sharp objects. The trays are easily removed from the refrigerator. However, they must be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

The top right shelf can be folded down to give taller items more room. There's also a full-width deli drawer and an internal water dispenser.

This refrigerator is equipped with an ice maker making it simple to transfer ice when needed. The freezer also has innovative design features like sliding drawers that can help you organize your items. It also has a huge bin that holds plenty of frozen food items and a separate ice storage bin.

Another cool feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can control the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your fridge using your smartphone. It's a simple way to keep track of your refrigerator and control it, especially when away from home.

Although the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took a bit longer to defrost and chill foods in this refrigerator than other refrigerators we test. This could be due to its larger capacity.

The other issue we have with the door of this refrigerator. They have handles that are sunken on the front, which allow smaller people to pull them open from the bottom, however they're not easy for taller people to guide shut without slamming them. It would have been much better if they came with a front-mounted handle.

It has a capacity that is higher than average for counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It's also less expensive than the best counter-depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which can make it a desirable choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good choice when you're looking for a French door refrigerator that doesn't cost a lot of budget. It's a basic refrigerator which may not be as eye-catching as its rivals however, it does have enough features to make it a suitable choice. Its most important feature, the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food items like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker and a water dispenser.

The "Chill Drawer", which is located above the two crisper bins, is a excellent feature. This drawer allows you to redirect a portion of the fridge french door ice maker's cooling power to this area so that you can store foods that require special attention. You can alter this feature by using the slider located on the on the outside of the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've noticed that the general settings are more effective than the specific ones.

During my tests, I found that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent across various parts of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn't vary very far from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. That's a good performance however it doesn't make it into the top ten in our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also pair this fridge with a smart thermometer for more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is made of stainless steel with a grey-bodied body which has a "smudge-proof" finish. It repels fingerprints and streaks better than other stainless steel finishes I've tried.
