Combining form and function, French-door refrigerators offer stylish double doors that open to an expansive fridge on top and freezer drawer below. Special features like through-the-door dispensers, higher-end ice machines and flex drawers that can be customized make them stand out from the rest.

We asked Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects - for her tips on how to select the right home. They considered storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like its name implies, the GE Profile series is targeted at people who want to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into their kitchen. This fridge has them all including the Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Given that this fridge costs more, I'd expect higher quality.

This fridge is a good choice, despite the blip. It has a large freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Furthermore, it holds a good amount of frozen foods compared to similar models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is on par for a french door fridge in Kitchen door refrigerator that costs this much. It comes with a decent size refrigerator with an ice maker in the left door. But, it's not the largest one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments to create a the perfect storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is attractive. The LED lighting adds an appealing accent. The bins for storage inside have a third shelf which can be folded down to store tall objects. The drawers have temperature controls so that you can set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to open and close, but I found the plastic's textured coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes the complete set of features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and allows you to control your refrigerator from any place in the globe. It also has a lot of customization options. It also sends you notifications when the door is left unlocked and when the freezer or fridge must be defrosted and when the filter needs to be changed.

It is nice if GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill, an option found in a few GE refrigerators that allows users to select the number of cups they would like to disperse. It does have a countdown feature on the fridge's display to show how much water you have remaining, but that's not as helpful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

It is designed to look like a seamless part of your kitchen, Bosch's french door fridge in kitchen-door refrigerator is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a veggie compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher for longer periods, and two compressors to preserve food items. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient and makes an ice pyramid with only a little water. This refrigerator is ideal for a small household or a kitchenette that wants a built-in appearance and top-of-the best food preservation.

This fridge was rated the best in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0°F and never fluctuated by more than a fraction, this is crucial to avoid the risk of a freezer burn. The fridge's refrigerator section also performed well, achieving the temperature that was set for the initial setting within a matter of hours and keeping that temperature steady over the course of our testing.

Bosch is a household name for its top-quality appliances. Therefore, it's not a surprise that Bosch counter depth refrigerator is one of them. Bosch counter depth refrigerator can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's platform Home Connect. This app allows you to monitor and control your refrigerator remotely on your tablet or smartphone. The fridge is a bit expensive, but it offers excellent features and functionality for the price.

It's important to understand the limitations of the fridge. It has a small space for shelves, so you may require some creativity when it comes to storing large items. The shelves are also not resistant to spills and are easily damaged or stained by sharp items. The trays are easily removed from the fridge. However, they must be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The top shelf on the right can be folded to provide more space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer for food items and an internal water dispenser.

One of the nice aspects of this refrigerator is that its Ice maker is located in the freezer, which makes it easy to move frozen ice to the fridge to use as needed. The freezer also has clever design features, such as sliding drawers that can help you organize your belongings. It also has a large container for storing frozen food, and a separate one for ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. It lets you control the fridge's temperature, lighting, and more from your smartphone. It's a great method of monitoring and managing your refrigerator, especially when you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat but it doesn't enhance the efficiency of the fridge. In fact it took a bit longer to defrost and chill food in this fridge than other refrigerators we test. This could be due to its greater capacity.

The doors are another problem with this fridge. The sunken handles allow shorter people to open them from the bottom. However, taller people still have a difficult time closing them without slamming. It would have been better if they came with a front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those looking to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with a more efficient design. Its capacity is superior to counter-depth models, and it cools evenly. It's also a bit cheaper than the top counter depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which makes it a great option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for a French door fridge that doesn't break the bank, this Frigidaire is a great choice. It's a simple fridge which may not be as attractive like some of its competitors, but it still has enough features to make it a an excellent option. Its most significant feature, the adjustable temperature drawer, helps to keep food items such as vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser as well as a good ice maker that operates quickly.

The "Chill Drawer", which is located over the two crisper bins, is a excellent feature. This drawer lets you divert part of the refrigerator's cooling power directly to this area, so you can put away food items that require special attention. You can adjust this feature by using the slider located on the on the outside of the drawer. You can also set the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've noticed that the general settings are more effective than the specific ones.

During my tests, the refrigerator's temperatures were fairly constant across the different areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the fridge didn't differ significantly from 38 degrees. This is a good performance, but it isn't quite at the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also pair this fridge with an intelligent thermometer to get more precise readings of your fridge's temperature.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made from grey-bodied stainless that has a "smudge resistant" finish. It blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tried.
