This sensor is situated at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different connector pins and they have different functions however the best way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or injectors aren't firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were drenched with gazoline the fourth one was dry. When I start the engine without sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car can start if the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in but it still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or from a parts store. It is easy to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.
