Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you are at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite loud, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. Finally, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum that mops vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums uk vacuums that we've test. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
